1. What made you choose a career in real estate? For as long as I can remember, my mother (Bev) has been a licensed realtor. Her dedication, along with the familiarity and understanding of real estate was my driving force which led me into becoming a licensed realtor as well. I did not get in to the business till I was 25. Prior to that I had run my own business for several years, and had been a cowboy on a working ranch. People look at realtors and associate age with wisdom which I have found not to be the case. Some of the hardest working realtors that deliver the most value and broker the best deals are very often younger. 2. What’s the most rewarding part of the job for you? Assisting my client(s) with the purchase or sale of real estate, which in most cases is their largest asset, I find everything about my job very rewarding. One highlight that stands out to me is after you have shown buyer client(s) several properties they find something they fall in love with. Or as we call it, get the gut feeling/instinct that it is the right one. Another is possession day when everything comes together and they finally receive the keys to their new home. Lastly on the sales side, coming up with a listing strategy that allows my seller(s) to preserve as much equity in their pockets to upsize, downsize or invest. 3. Who are your role models – personally and professionally? My family have all been great role models for me. Being the youngest with 2 older sisters, and a father and mother being small business owners I believe I gained large knowledge and life experience to become who I am today. Professionally I am a huge fan of Tony Robbins, Richard Branson, Warren Buffet and Bill Gates. I admire their work, and their books have been helped me to shape the life I aspire to live. 4. What keeps you busy away from real estate? My family and girlfriend of 4 years are who you will find me spending most of my time with, when I happen to catch a break from the busy world of real estate. In terms of activities, I am an avid hiker and skier. I also truly believe in looking after yourself physically so you will find me 6-7 days a week in the gym before starting my day. 5. Who or what motivates you? Not so much what motivates me, but why do I want to be the best I can be. This list could be endless but in short, I want to live in a world of abundance for everyone. Have a healthy lifestyle so I am able train others. Have more happiness so I can brighten peoples’ day and more wealth so I can help those in need. Overall live a life full of positivity so I can eradicate the negativity that pollutes certain parts of society. 6. Describe yourself in 3 words. Trustworthy. Loyal. Caring. 7. What’s the most challenging aspect of your career? Real Estate is very circumstantial/situational. In 4 years of being licensed I have very seldom encountered a deal that goes the same way. As we are in the people business we need to adapt to the needs and wants of each client. This also makes this the most exciting part of my career. Every person is different and because of this I always have to stay at the top of my game. 8. What’s your favourite spot in Calgary? The country boy in me loves the Rodeo or the chucks during stampede. Year round favourite spot is Lake Bonavista for the ability to skate/toboggan in the winter and swim/paddle in the summer. 9. What’s the best part about being a Calgarian? I was born and raised Calgarian, being the first in my family. My parents almost named me Calvin Gary (for Cal Gary, haha). The best part for me is the ability to ski in Banff, hike in K-Country or bike/walk in Fish Creek. There are endless amounts of activities here for anyone that looks. 10. What’s the best part about the Western Elite Real Estate Group? Being a team member for 8 years now, the best part is the mentorship and support. The ability to bounce questions, concerns or ideas off each other at anytime.
